Format Requirements: The course will utilize a lecture format with approximately 30 minutes devoted to each topic. No prior knowledge of medical decision making methods is required.
Background: This course will introduce students to 5 of the most common methods presented at Society for Medical Decision Making meetings: 1) cost-effectiveness analysis, 2) health status and utilities, 3) simulation modeling, 4) shared decision making, and 5) decision psychology. Each lecture will present an overview of terminology and methods, with examples of applications, so that students can better understand SMDM meeting abstract presentations.
