Biographical Sketch: Robert Smith, PhD, is a cancer epidemiologist and Senior Director of Cancer Screening at the National Office of the American Cancer Society in Atlanta, Georgia. He also holds an appointment as Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Smith’s primary research interests are cancer epidemiology, evaluation of cancer prevention and early detection programs, multi-chronic disease models of preventive care, and quality assurance in the delivery of health services. Prior to joining the ACS he held positions with the Boston University School of Public Health, and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He serves on numerous international and national government and professional advisory committees and working groups. He co-chairs the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable, and he was a founding member of Cervical Cancer Action, an international community of organizations and individuals dedicated to working collaboratively to eliminate cervical cancer deaths worldwide.
