Kristina Birnbrauer is a Ph.D. student in the College of Journalism and Communications at University of Florida where she studies health and risk communication. Her research involves how individuals and organizations manage and respond to health crises and use new media to communicate about health issues. Kristina's research is inspired by the upward trend of Internet use among individuals searching for health information and social support. Ms. Birnbrauer is a graduate assistant sponsored by University of Florida’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), whose mission is to improve human health by accelerating the translation of scientific discoveries into practical applications and practices for the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure of human diseases. This program aims to provide educational opportunities that facilitate the training of clinical and basic science investigators, clinical trialists, laboratory technicians, study coordinators and other related personnel required to establish and support multi- and interdisciplinary clinical and translational researchers and research teams. Prior to her work with the TPDP, Ms. Birnbrauer supported the CTSI's Communications Research Program, facilitating research collaborations among UF's clinical and translational researchers and health communication researchers in the College of Journalism and Communications.
