Biographical Sketch:
George Khalil is an NCI funded Pre-Doctoral Fellow at the MD Anderson Cancer Center and Doctoral Candidate in health communication from the University at Buffalo, New York. Georges' research involves the study of technology and entertainment-based interventions for cancer prevention. In particular, George examines how emotional response to entertainment allows us to perceive cancer risk in order to make healthy decisions. George received his Master's Degree in Public Health from the University of Southern California, College of Medicine, where he became passionate about the study of Entertainment-Education for cancer prevention. Working with script writers and producers in Los Angeles, George worked to introduced health promotional messages in television drama and evaluate the effectiveness of such messages on the general public. George's recent work involved the study of emotional involvement in a video game called Re-Mission, that can improve cancer risk perception among healthy young adults and medication adherence among pediatric cancer patients. Currently, George is evaluating how a web-based smoking prevention program for adolescents called ASPIRE can stimulate emotions and ultimately change smoking related attitudes and behaviors.
