Biographical Sketch: Dr. Karine Toupin April is an Associate Scientist at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Research Institute, and an Assistant Professor (Department of Pediatrics) and Adjunct Professor (School of Rehabilitation Sciences) at the University of Ottawa. She holds a B.Sc. in Occupational Therapy, an M.Sc. in Rehabilitation, and a Ph.D. in Public Health and Epidemiology from the Université de Montréal, and undertook a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Ottawa with funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Canadian Arthritis Network and The Arthritis Society.
She has research expertise in chronic disease management, complementary and alternative medicine, instrument development and knowledge translation. Her work has included research in pediatric and adult rheumatology, with experience in developing measurement tools, decision aids and self-management tools.
She has been developing and validating a questionnaire assessing the use of complementary and alternative medicine and an adherence questionnaire for use in pediatric rheumatology. She has also been involved in the development of the American College of Rheumatology 2012 clinical practice guidelines for osteoarthritis, as well as the development of a decision aid and a self-management tool for patients with osteoarthritis. She is an Editor of the Cochrane Musculoskeletal Group.
