Biographical Sketch:
Katherine A. Treiman is a senior research scientist in RTI International’s Center for Communication Science. Dr. Treiman has more than 20 years of experience in health communication research and evaluation. Her research interests include patient-centered care and communication, patient engagement in health care, patient safety, patient-reported outcomes, and applications of health IT. She has designed and implemented research and evaluation protocols for the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the American Cancer Society (ACS), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health IT, and other organizations. Dr. Treiman has conducted research and measurement development efforts to examine the patient’s experience with care, including an NCI and AHRQ study to develop measures of patient-centered communication in cancer care. As part of a comprehensive evaluation of the NCI Community Cancer Center Program (NCCCP), Dr. Treiman developed a patient survey, led comprehensive focus group research, and conducted case studies of cancer centers participating in the NCCCP. Dr. Treiman has expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including measurement development and testing.
