Biographical Sketch: Arwen Pieterse conducts research on decision making processes during medical consultations, with a particular interest for adjuvant treatment in oncology, doctor/patient preferences for treatment, risk communication and patient values clarification. Her main focus is on shared decision making and the extent to which steps of a shared decision making (SDM) process actually occur during real-life doctor-patient interactions, and ways to enhance SDM. She is further involved in the development and validation of instruments to assess the occurrence of SDM.
