Biographical Sketch: Linda Harlan is and epidemiologist and Acting Branch Chief of the Healthcare Assessment Research Branch in the Healthcare Delivery Research Program. Dr. Harlan received her MPH and PhD from The University of Michigan. She joined the National Cancer Institute in 1987 and is responsible for the National Cancer Institute’s Patterns of Care/Quality of Care program. The program, which began with the collection of data in 1987, has examined the dissemination of state of the art therapy to adults and children diagnosed with cancer. Data from this program has been resulted in more than 50 publications and is used by Cancer Prevention Fellows, doctoral candidates and the SEER program registries. Following the NCI/LAF report in 2006 that highlighted the lack of progress in adolescent and young adults (AYA) cancer targeted studies of AYAs were initiated. Dr. Harlan serve as senior investigator for the Adolescent and Young Adults Health Outcomes and Patient Experience Study (AYA HOPE) feasibility study which is in response to the slow pace of improvement in survival in AYA. Dr. Harlan has published more than 125 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and book chapters.
