Biographical Sketch: Dr. Jie Weiss is a Professor in Health Science department and the Associate Director of the Center for the Promotion of Healthy Lifestyles and Obesity Prevention at California State University, Fullerton. She is a health psychologist by training with research focusing on behavioral science. She has extensive research experience in application of cognitive and behavioral science in health promotion and disease prevention among culturally diverse populations, particularly among Asian and Latino ethnic groups. She has been Principal Investigator, Co-Principal Investigator, Program Evaluator, and Consultant for numerous projects funded by National Institute of Drug Abuse, National Cancer Institute, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, The United States Department of Agriculture, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Defense, California Tobacco Related Disease Research Program, California Office of Traffic Safety, California Dairy Council, and other California State research programs. Dr. Weiss uses the descriptive MAU Decision Making Model and applies the model in health behavior promotion to examine people’s risk perception, emotions, lifestyle choices, motivation for health related behavior change and maintenance, and their relations to health outcomes.
