Biographical Sketch: Monica is an Australian cardiothoracic surgeon with Masters Degrees in International Health, Business Administration and Applied Epidemiology. She has over 20 years clinical experience and is currently sharing her time between the Cancer Council New South Wales (where she heads the Medical and Scientific Issues Unit ) and the University of Sydney, where she is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Public Health. In 2013 Monica took a volunteer assignment with AustTraining International, as a Curriculum Development Advisor at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Maldives National University. This presentation is informed by her work in the Maldives, which involved collaborating with local academic staff to develop a local Master of Public Health program and to build local research capacity.
